I usually get emotional at series endings. I do. Years ago, I wept over "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" although I had seen maybe two eppys. They represent a change, a era of life that is now over--and I always get emotional at life changes (wow, you didn't know that, did you?). We won't even talk about the waterworks seen with the ending of X-Files. Voyager. Mad About You. Etc.
Many a tear was shed tonight... of utter joy and of utter horror. I mean, 7th Heaven? Ending not with one pregnancy, but three sets of twins, I just about gagged. And the whole flashback scenes or the dream "here's how the wedding ends" dream sequences... *shudders*
I know I have several friends in LJ who like 7th Heaven... so I'll stop now. But I am not going to miss that show. Not at all.
Everwood, however, was awesome. They so know how to handle human emotions and making them real, so even though I'm irrate at their actions, I still love the characters. Anyone heard if they've announced which shows they're keeping next year?
I have to admit that I have a weakness for TLC shows. Like "Little People, Big World" or "What Not to Wear". Or my newest favorite "Jamie Oliver Does School Lunch." I've had such a crush on The Naked Chef... I think it's the accent. And the fact that he cooks.
Started physical therapy today. I've been to these same therapists for the last 4 surgeries, so I'm kinda fond of them. They're older women and very good. My therapist was impressed with all of the progress that I've made--although, I wish I had just a bit more movement. But that's why we go to the therapist. That and the wonderful, massaging electrodes... Mmm. Sweet pain.
Nothing else to report really. I'm flying out to Milwaukee at the end of the month to look at places to live--whether I buy or not is still up in the air. But that's all the excitement in this port. :)
ETA: I was just looking though some old emails and found the link to Chris and Melissa's wedding site. It's still up. The counter on the bottom says "Four days until the big day" and there are smiling pictures of the couple on every page. I haven't seen Chris look that content for a long time. The tears in my eyes are real this time... It still sucks, you know?

Date: 2006-05-08 10:36 pm (UTC)I don't mind watching moral storylines. I don't (those are some of my favorite Everwood storylines). But I hated hated hated that every single freaking episode had a simplistic take on that moral issue. Smoking. Sex. Self-inflicted injury. Every week had a theme, and everything was neatly solved by the end. The dialogue--oh my gosh, the dialogue is sooo painfully written. After 10 years, that has never improved.
And believe me, I'm all for happy endings... Really, I'm a romantic sap. But things can be taken way way way too far.

Date: 2006-05-08 10:30 pm (UTC)I did read about the final episode, though, and I agree that everyone having twins was just insane. And I also read that Tyler Hoechlin was not in the final show....which is sorta sad because he's been on it quite a while.
I do watch "Little People, Big World" sometimes. My mom says she's met the mom; she used to do tv (I recognize her from dif. things) and she used to live down here.
I was watching some of the mini-marathon last night and what gets me about the dad is that he seems sort of maniacal about his (dwarf) son finding a girl. They were at a San Diego convention, and he criticized his son for not sitting with the girls. But, 1. He's not quite ready for it, and he won't be, if his dad keeps pushing 2. The other guys weren't sitting with the girls and 3. The girls' and guys' tables were right beside each other. Well, I guess my point is, the dad seems to be a bit panicky. Or pushy. Or both.
I thought it was cute when the grandparents were over, feeding them three full sit-down meals and a 9:00 pm snack. lol.

Date: 2006-05-08 10:40 pm (UTC)Re: Little People--- YES! The dad is so obsessed about his 15 Year Old son finding a girl. That's a very very common theme--they've gone to a few of these conventions and everytime, the dad is pushing Zach to the girls, and freaking out that he's not dancing, or socializing or whatever. He's 15!! Very few 15 years old are really that comfortable about girls. It really bothers me, but otherwise, I like the show. I like the daughter and mom relationship a lot.

Date: 2006-05-08 11:40 pm (UTC)This all reminds me of a certain someone with whom I was discussing heights 3 years ago. I said, "I'm technically a dwarf...their cutoff is 4'10"...not that I go to conventions or anything..." and he said, "They have conventions?" and I said, "Yeah," to which he replied laughingly, "What do they do? Try to take over the world?"
That person is nameless. LOL...seriously, I won't mention his name. ;)

Date: 2006-05-08 11:22 pm (UTC)Then I heard about Television Without Pity, the characters got weirder and I started to mock it ;). My loyalties can easily change from year to year, and hearing about the finale, it's something only that show could come up with, along with having a dog with opening credits status.
Everwood and VM could go either way with renewal at this point, but since Reba (produced by Fox) is getting cancelled because CW doesn't want a sixth season, they might be safe since they're both Warner shows.
Do you have a specific idea of which areas of Milwaukee you're going to search in for housing, city or suburbs? What I'm thinking is to look for something within 3-4 miles of 94 or 894 so it's a quick commute to the hospital complex, but that's just me.

Date: 2006-05-08 11:32 pm (UTC)I don't know the area. At all. I've tried to do searchs on the web and stuff--but it's hard to tell distances or neighborhoods or any of that. So I definitely appreciate your advice and am marking it down.

Thanks again, Nate!

Date: 2006-05-09 02:43 pm (UTC)Anyway, I used to watch 7th Heaven once in a while, and I didn't really mind the early years too much, but then it became so mockable as to be ridiculous. No one had premarital sex, everyone got married absurdly young, and while I don't have a problem with morals and values, having them shoved down my throat in such an anvilicious manner didn't work for me. Mostly, I'm glad it's gone because it's one less show Everwood and Veronica Mars will have to compete against on the CW schedule.

Date: 2006-05-09 03:14 pm (UTC)The early years were sweet cheese. I'll give them that (although the thought that Matt decided to become an OB/GYN because The Dog gave birth still makes me gag). But it's gotten so much worse. And as I've said, I dn't mind when my shows take a stand on a moral issue... I love the Everwood has brought up the issues of premarital sex or peer pressure. In fact, sometimes (like the whole vibrator episode or the one where Delia found the "dirty magazines") I wish they would have taken a more definite stand on the issue, instead of wishy-washy through it. But for the most part, it's about choices and making decisions--not this person did a bad thing, therefore they must be smote. And they don't fill the entire episode with MULTIPLE examples of that particular moral issue, as 7th Heaven is wont to do. But as I said, my biggest problem was with their dialogue--10 years and it was still wooden and fake.
Anvilicious isn't a real word, is it? *sigh* I was looking forward to using it in RL... It would have been impressive.

Date: 2006-05-09 04:04 pm (UTC)Anyway, no, anvilicious isn't a really word, but it totally should be. :)
If Everwood gets cancelled, I think my heart will break. We need more shows like it, not less.

Date: 2006-05-17 04:06 pm (UTC)Now, I don't cry. I just feel like doing so.
I am a big fan of '7th Heaven', but I have the same problems with the finale as you have. It ended and I was stunned, going "WTF? WTF was that?" "I need to talk to you." Oh, okay. THE END.
Glad you're enjoying my 'Everwood'. I've heard it's got as good a chance as 'Veronica Mars' to be picked up for the new network. I'm busy pulling for both.
