Banner made by the wonderful Ellie (shirerain)

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon,
East of the Sun.

~~J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

A journey of self-discovery...to learn lessons of life...that believing is seeing...and magic exists inside.
Welcome, friends.

Getting to Know Me! My name is Julia. Those close to me call me Jules, Julio (with the spanish pronunciation of course!), Miss J, Freddy and/or Sparky. I'm 32 years old, single (but not woefully so, usually), and have naturally red hair that is steadily becoming less red every year (which is a definite woe). Oh, and I'm a doctor (so I guess I respond to that nickname as well) and am training in the intensive care unit (ICU) to work with people who have brain injuries.

About this journal: Unfortunately, right now, time is sparse, so I don't get a lot of time to update this journal, but when I do, I use it to rant/whine/gush about the things going on in my life--work at the hospital (a very common theme, but all HIPAA compliant), my friends, my lack of a love life, various and sundry fandoms. I tend to come off as griping at times, but I'm a pretty happy and content person. I don't spend a lot of time talking about the medical profession--while I feel very passionately about health care and policies, most of it I am unable to put into concrete examples and arguments. I will not offer medical advice in this journal, if you have a question, please see your own physician.

I am a religious person (known as LDS in Utah, Mormon elsewhere, but it's all the same thing) and politically active (Moderately Liberal) and a feminist, but you won't find much of that in this journal, due to lack of time to properly pontificate upon the issues. As long as you respect my beliefs, as I do yours, we'll get along fine.

Friending Policy: Quite a few of my entries are "friends-only" but that's really only so I can know who's viewing them. I love meeting new people and many of my good friends are people that I met through this journal. So if you've looked at my interests and think that we could enrich each other's friend page, drop a comment and friend me. I do request that you use reasonable spelling and grammar. I don't expect perfection (and you won't find that here either), but if I can't read or understand your entries, then we're definitely not going to be compatible.

Commenting Policy: I read every single one of my friends' journals, however, I don't get a lot of time to comment. If you need the gratification of a response (and believe me, I understand the thrill), I'm afraid it won't be from me. I don't expect my friends to comment on my entries as well, but I love it when they do!

About my userpics: I've been playing around with Photoshop the last few months and with the help of brushes, textures, and tutorials provided by the awesome people on LJ, I've made some of my own. I've been meaning to post my list of resources--however, time is short and the list is exhaustive. A few can be found in the memories and I got a good lot of them from icon_tutorial. Suffice it to say: none of the brushes or textures used are my own. All icons are up for grabs, except the default.
