I utterly loath it when people remove their fanfic. So much time and effort on the author's part and so much love from the audience, just vanished. Plus, in this day and age, where fanfic is being published on Amazon, there is absolutely no need to do that. Plenty of authors get their start in fanfic. It's not the sensational, salacious, career-ruining hobby that it was in the past.

Haha, I thought I was replying to somebody's entry! But it's as true there as it is here.

I've been trying unsuccessfully for months to track down a HIMYM fic that I really enjoyed from 4-5 years ago. It was considered one of the top 10 of the fandom - but the author left fandom and deleted her journal and all copies of the fic. Just gone. Thousands of words and ideas just vanished.

My current main fandom, Glee, ended the series a year ago - and a good portion of the fandom had faded away about a year before that. The dead links just utterly drain me.

I think I'm extra frustrated because with AO3, you can orphan a fic and completely delink yourself from it, but it still saves the fic for the rest of us who are still involved, or for people like me, who want the fic/vids/fanart to remain as a cultural anthropologic collection.

There are SO many Glee authors who removed their fic, crushing my heart. I haven't been involved in any other fandoms, but I can imagine it's the same across the board. Sigh.

A few weekends, I went through and downloaded a whole bunch that I thought were at risk for being deleted (flyblckbird and gameboyplaying for example). klaineficspdfs have a masterlist of fic - and a compilation from a few years ago that includes fics that were deleted, but I know I'm missing some (a lot) and the holes will probably get larger.
